We're ready to change the game.
America is facing an incredible shortage of qualified umpires across all levels of baseball. We believe we can help change that.
Level Ump was founded in 2023, the same year that Major League Baseball welcomed rule changes to help the game grow its fan base.
The pitch clock, bigger bases, and the shift ban have led to faster games and more action. As the National Baseball Hall of Fame reminds us, baseball and history go hand-in-hand; the “game of baseball supports and reflects many aspects of American life, from culture to economics and technological advances. It inspires movements, instills pride and even heals cities.”
While the game has changed to reflect cultural shifts, it is still missing women and other underrepresented people at the highest levels.
Level Ump plans to change that.
These are the five ways that we are working to achieve our mission:

Raise awareness of the under representation of women and others among professional umpires and of the fact that this is a viable career path.

Provide scholarships to Wendelstedt Umpire School, to include travel, room, and board.

Provide education, including camps/workshops to prepare candidates for MLB Umpire Development one-day camps.

Provide equipment and work with equipment providers to make uniforms and equipment available to/better fitting for women.

Foster a community of support for underrepresented groups where everyone feels comfortable asking questions and openly discussing challenges.
